The Eight Wolves

Meet your
whole Council.

Eight capacities, each with something to contribute. All eight are available to everyone—not eight kinds of people.

Analyst

Logic and precision

The Analyst capacity helps you examine an idea, distinguish what follows from what, and make your reasoning clearer. It can be useful when a situation calls for careful questions rather than a quick answer.

A question to consider

What needs to be made clearer before I decide?

When overused

Repeated analysis can delay action or give precision more attention than the situation needs.

When underused

Assumptions may go unexamined, leaving important distinctions unclear.

02 / The CouncilThe Commander — canonical Inner Wolves illustration
Jungian function context / Te

Commander

Execution and efficiency

The Commander capacity helps turn intention into action. It brings attention to priorities, practical organisation and what needs to happen next.

A question to consider

What is the next useful action, and what will support it?

When overused

A focus on getting things done can leave too little room for reflection or other perspectives.

When underused

Useful intentions may remain unorganised or fail to become action.

03 / The CouncilThe Explorer — canonical Inner Wolves illustration
Jungian function context / Ne

Explorer

Possibility and playfulness

The Explorer capacity opens space for alternatives. It can help you approach a familiar situation with curiosity, try a different perspective and consider more than one way forward.

A question to consider

What other possibility have I not yet considered?

When overused

Continually opening new possibilities can make it harder to choose or follow through.

When underused

The first available option may become the only option considered.

04 / The CouncilThe Unifier — canonical Inner Wolves illustration
Jungian function context / Fe

Unifier

Harmony and connection

The Unifier capacity attends to relationships and shared understanding. It can help you notice how people are connecting and what might support a more constructive conversation.

A question to consider

What would help us understand one another here?

When overused

Preserving harmony can take precedence over a necessary disagreement or a clear boundary.

When underused

The relational impact of a decision may receive too little attention.

05 / The CouncilThe Flamebearer — canonical Inner Wolves illustration
Jungian function context / Fi

Flamebearer

Integrity and authenticity

The Flamebearer capacity brings attention to what matters to you and whether your actions are consistent with it. It can support an honest response rather than one chosen only to meet expectations.

A question to consider

What matters to me here, and how can I act consistently with it?

When overused

Holding tightly to a personal position can leave less room for context or another perspective.

When underused

A response may follow expectations without enough consideration of what feels personally important.

06 / The CouncilThe Mystic — canonical Inner Wolves illustration
Jungian function context / Ni

Mystic

Intuition and insight

The Mystic capacity makes room for an emerging sense of meaning or direction. It can help you consider patterns and reflect on an insight that is not yet fully articulated.

A question to consider

What pattern might I be noticing, and how could I check it?

When overused

An emerging interpretation can be treated as certainty before it has been examined.

When underused

A useful pattern or a less obvious connection may be overlooked.

07 / The CouncilThe Scout — canonical Inner Wolves illustration
Jungian function context / Se

Scout

Presence and real-time awareness

The Scout capacity attends to what is happening now. It can help you notice immediate information, respond to changing circumstances and stay in contact with the situation in front of you.

A question to consider

What is happening right now that needs my attention?

When overused

Immediate demands can crowd out longer-term considerations or time for reflection.

When underused

A plan or interpretation may take precedence over what is actually happening.

08 / The CouncilThe Guardian — canonical Inner Wolves illustration
Jungian function context / Si

Guardian

Memory and stewardship

The Guardian capacity draws attention to experience and what is worth preserving. It can help you recall what has been learned, maintain continuity and care for established responsibilities.

A question to consider

What can experience teach me here, and what deserves care?

When overused

A familiar approach can be retained even when circumstances have changed.

When underused

Lessons from experience or responsibilities that need continuity may be neglected.

A Council, not a hierarchy

What does this
situation ask of you?

Range and balance mean considering more than your most familiar response. None of these capacities is bad; their usefulness depends on context, access and support.
